If for some reason you’re still committed to Windows 10 Mobile and looking for a powerful smartphone at an incredible price, search no more because the Microsoft Store has just released a major discount for the Alcatel IDOL 4S.
The unlocked version of the phone can be yours for just $99, though it’s worth mentioning that this package does not include the VR headset that Alcatel launched the device with as part of a bundle originally priced at $479.
But to be honest, the VR headset isn’t really worth the money, as the VR content available on Windows 10 Mobile at the moment is super-limited and despite its promise to deliver updates regularly, Alcatel hasn’t shipped any new content refresh since launching the IDOL 4S.
The Windows 10 Mobile superphone
The phone itself, however, is still a great buy if you don’t mind the current state of Windows 10 Mobile. The device comes with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display, a 21-megapixel camera, 64GB built-in storage, microSD card support, and is supported by the most recent Windows 10 Mobile versions – this is particularly important given that Microsoft killed off the original Windows 10 Mobile release.
As I said a long time when reviewing the Alcatel IDOL 4S, phones like this one was exactly what Microsoft’s mobile platform needed from the very beginning, obviously mixed with continuous software support and frequent updates delivered to the operating system.
In the meantime, however, Windows 10 Mobile proved to be just a modern flop, and Microsoft itself said that it’s no longer planning to release any new features or hardware for the platform. In other words, those of you who want to stick with Windows 10 Mobile have to get used to how the operating system works right now because no breaking changes would be made anytime soon.
The biggest hope on the mobile front from Microsoft is the arrival of a Surface Phone, and evidence discovered lately indicated that we might be getting very close to the debut of this dream device.
Thanks for the tip, Matthias!
